Grandparents are a lot of things to their grandkids. They’re playmates, lunch buddies, sleepover hosts and teachers.

Never underestimate that teaching role.

You play it every time you’re with the grandkids even if it’s unintentional.

They’re always watching, taking their cues on life from you. And, in many cases, that role is more important now than ever.

It’s common to see both parents working these days so grandparents are often the ones singing the ABC song or reading those “Golden books” to the kids.

It’s an awesome responsibility as my wife well knows.

Some years ago our second-born grand daughter was a day away from beginning preschool when we learned the teacher had resigned and the program would not be offered.

My wife came to the rescue and began “Grannie Preschool” for the 4-year old, each day part of our house became a classroom where the basics of education were offered in a structured and loving atmosphere.

We like to think that start played a part in developing the honor student she has become.

Now the challenge continues. The same granddaughter has obtained her driver’s license permit. And guess who’s giving the lessons? Yep. It’s Grannie.

I’m thinking it’s a little more stressful than teaching those ABC’s but it’s just as structured and just as loving. The kind of education we grandparents are best at offering.

Hope all your news is good.
